15th Annual Basic Life Support (BLS) workshop was held at Mrs. Razia Ali Muhammad Auditorium on 14th May 2024 in Ibn-e-Sina University, Mirpurkhas.
Final Year MBBS students of Muhammad Medical College, junior and senior doctors of the hospital attended the workshop, which was conducted by visiting Professor of Medicine and BLS supervisor Dr. Syed Zafar Abbas. Students from Muhammad Dental College , Institute of Muhammad College of Nursing and students from Institute of Physiotherapy also attended the workshop.
Programme started with recitation from Holy Quran. Vice Chancellor Professor Shamsul Arfeen Khan recited the holy verses. Professor Syed Zafar Abbas delivered a lecture on description of cardiac arrest scenario and described cardio –pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in detail.
He said that knowing when and how to perform CPR is just as important as knowing when and why not to attempt it. He explained that this procedure is only performed in people whose heart has just stopped beating. He said that ensuring safety of rescuers is also very important.
Following the lecture Professor Dr. Syed Zafar Abbas was helped by Mr. Raja Ramesh Lecturer of Nursing College and Miss Almas Ashraf –Principal of Nursing College in teaching the practical aspects of CPR. Students came in small groups and had hands on experience on a manikin under supervision.
